At Blue Heron Collective, our story isn’t just about the founding of an organization—it’s about decades of lived experience, unwavering purpose, and a vision to rewrite the narrative for neurodiverse individuals.
Our journey began long before the formation of Blue Heron. Collectively, we bring years of experience in formal education, program development and management, leadership, coaching, and curriculum design and implementation. But beyond the resumes and credentials, our work has always been deeply personal.
Each member of our founding team has been touched directly by neurodiversity—whether through our own experiences or those of the individuals we care for and support. ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other forms of neurodivergence are not abstract concepts for us; they are interwoven into the fabric of our lives and our mission. These experiences have shaped how we teach, how we lead, and how we build community.
Over the years, we’ve developed and led programs that challenged the status quo—creating spaces where every learner could thrive, not just survive. We’ve coached educators and leaders to think differently, to embrace strengths-based approaches, and to center empathy in all that they do. And perhaps most importantly, we’ve learned from the incredible individuals we've had the privilege to work alongside—individuals who have taught us the true meaning of resilience, innovation, and brilliance in diversity.
All of these chapters have led to the creation of Blue Heron Collective.
Named for the graceful bird that symbolizes strength, self-determination, and reflection, Blue Heron is more than an organization—it’s a movement. At our core, we are passionate about changing the narrative for neurodivergent individuals. We exist to increase inclusion, acceptance, advocacy, and opportunity in every corner of life—from the classroom to the workplace, to the heart of our communities.
We believe that every person deserves a learning, community, and employment experience that honors their humanity, their individuality, and their potential. Not just access but belonging. Not just tolerance, but celebration.
With every program we build, every partnership we foster, and every story we help rewrite, our goal is clear: to create a world where neurodiverse individuals are not just supported but empowered. Where differences are not deficits, but superpowers. And where systems evolve to meet the needs of all people—not just the majority.
Blue Heron Collective is the result of decades of growth, reflection, and purpose-driven work—and we’re just getting started.
Together, we can build a more inclusive future. One where every individual can spread their wings.
